Project Description: Benchmark has been contracted to build a new YMCA in Mohnton, PA. The one-story, 7,000-square-foot building will be built on borough-owned land at 144 Chestnut St., the previous site of Mohnton High School. At a cost of about $950,000, the branch will have a fitness center, a gymnasium and an interactive game center for children and teens. More than $500,000 was raised for the project through fundraisers and private donations. The Gov. Mifflin Community Center Inc., a group of local residents, has been working to bring a recreation center to the Mohnton area since 2001. The center should open by mid to late summer, organizers said.
